FPS and ping: why the game slows down differently

Image stuttering and action lag look similar, but are corrected differently. First, separate the performance of your computer from the quality of your connection.

Test the game without a network

Compare an online match with training or single player mode. If the camera twitches there too, start with graphics settings and background programs. If the image is smooth, but the characters teleport only on the network, look at the ping and packet loss. The FPS counter itself does not indicate the quality of the connection.

Measure a repeatable scenario

Use the same map and the same route. Note whether there is a jerk when the camera rotates, players appear, or a new area loads. Compare average FPS with frame time stability: a high average can hide short stutters. Change one setting at a time, otherwise you won't know what helped.

What to change first

For graphical stuttering, reduce heavy effects and check if the correct GPU is selected. For network latency, try a wired connection, stop downloads and select the closest available server. If the entire team has problems, check the service status. Do not install unknown accelerators: they do not guarantee either frame stability or lower ping.
