Check connectivity before changing files
Epic usually associates ESP with connection problems. Check service status, then restart the game, PC, and your router if needed. If you use a VPN or proxy, compare an attempt without it; another connection can help establish whether the current network is involved. Change one condition at a time. Record the full code: similar wording alone proves neither a ban nor account loss.
Windows: clear the launcher’s specific cache
Exit Epic Games Launcher completely using its notification-area icon and Exit. Press Win + R, enter %localappdata%, and open EpicGamesLauncher/Saved. Epic’s cache guide names webcache, webcache_4147, and webcache_4430: remove only those folders that exist at that location. This is launcher cache; do not remove the entire Saved directory or FortniteGame. Reopen the launcher afterwards and test again.
Windows: free space and file verification
For ESP troubleshooting, Epic asks for at least 10 GB free on Fortnite’s installation drive. That is working space, not the game’s entire size. In the Epic library, use Fortnite’s three-dot menu → Manage → Verify to check installed files. Wait until it finishes and compare the result. If you use Bitdefender, Epic links its specific official guidance; the error name is not a reason to switch off all protection.
Consoles: follow the matching device guide
For console ESP-DIST, Epic directs players to device-cache clearing and then, if necessary, an Xbox, PlayStation, or Nintendo Switch power cycle. Open the relevant link from its console article first because menus and sequences differ. Windows folders and the Switch MTU setting are not universal console instructions. A factory reset is not a substitute for a cache check.
When the error still repeats
Record code, device model, time zone, connection type, and each check’s result. Note whether the launcher opens and which Fortnite screen is reached. Epic’s page also contains later local-data and reinstall steps; they are not the mandatory starting point. Before those actions, preserve needed local settings and establish which data will be affected. Network, cache, and file checks do not guarantee a fix for every ESP case.
