Xbox 360 games on Series X|S: compatibility, discs and library

Select Xbox 360 games run on Xbox One and Series X|S. Having an older copy does not mean your entire generation library is compatible.

Find the game in the official list

Check the Xbox Backwards Compatibility Library for the exact name. The feature itself comes at no additional cost, but that doesn't make all games free. Some compatible games are no longer available for purchase; a previously purchased copy may remain available. Availability of the game and add-ons may vary by region. Record the edition and account you are using to compare the same purchase. Don't draw conclusions about the entire series based on the compatibility of one part.

Check your digital copy or disc

Look for the purchased compatible digital game in the ready-to-install section. A supported disc used on a console with a disc drive requires a download and the disc must remain inside to run. Series S and Xbox One S All-Digital Edition support digital purchases; The disc does not replace the digital license for these devices. Please check the format of the original copy before repurchasing. If you find several similar editions in the library, compare their titles with the purchase you are looking for.

Improvements and saves are checked separately

FPS Boost, Auto HDR and increased resolution are available in individual games, not the entire old library. Rules for original Xbox games must not be assumed to apply to Xbox 360 games. We are not saying here that any local save from the old console will transfer itself: check the specific game help and the location of your save before proceeding. When you first start, write down your profile, game version and progress found. If there is no progress, do not overwrite your usual position with a new playthrough before checking the original save.
