How to check game files on Steam and when it helps

If the game stops launching after an update, check its files first. This is a spot check of the installation, and not a reason to immediately remove the entire library.

Verifying the installation

Open the Steam library, select the game, then its properties and the installed files section. Run the integrity check and wait for completion. Steam will check your local installation and download any missing files if necessary. Do not run this game during testing. After completion, restart the client and repeat the action that caused the failure.

What to do with mods

If the problem appeared after installing the mod, save the list of modifications and their settings. Temporarily disable mods using the method recommended by their author. The scan can restore modified game files, but is not required to remove additional modification files. Don't randomly delete folders: backup your saves first and check the instructions for your specific game.

How to evaluate the result

Use the same scenario: the same save, level or launch. If a clean install works, return the mods one at a time. If the error remains, write down its text, the moment it appeared and the driver version. File checking does not correct low video memory, overheating, network latency, or errors in the update itself. These reasons require separate checks.
