Three versions to check
In the mod card, find the Minecraft version, loader and additional dependencies. Then select the appropriate Forge release from the official page. A newer number does not guarantee the operation of the old mod. Save the compatibility information next to the file: it will come in handy after the update. Moving Fabric or NeoForge mods into the same folder does not make them compatible with Forge.
Select installer and profile
On the official Forge page, first select the branch of the desired version of Minecraft, then the appropriate Installer. Follow the installer steps for the client and check the profile in Minecraft Launcher. Make the first launch without a set of third-party mods. Add mods one at a time
For the experiment, use a separate profile and a copy of the valuable world. After successfully launching Forge, add one compatible mod and its required dependencies, then launch again. Check the list of loaded mods and one declared function. This order allows you to associate a new fault with a specific change. Keep the original files separately so that you can return to the previous composition.
What to write down in case of failure
Save the game version, Forge, the name and version of the last added mod, as well as the error text. Compare dependency requirements: missing library is different from loader mismatch. If the game works without a new mod, revert the previous composition and check its support page. Update compatible components consistently. Replacing the entire set at once makes finding the cause much more difficult.
