Minecraft Bedrock Maps: How to Import .mcworld to Windows

The downloaded map can be a ready-made world, or it can be a resource pack. To import, it is important to know the format and edition of Minecraft.

Check edition and file type

These instructions apply to Minecraft Bedrock on Windows 10/11. Microsoft documentation describes .mcworld as an archive of world files, and .mcpack as a package of resources or behavior. The texture pack itself is not a new map to the world list. Before downloading, read which edition the author prepared the material for and which version is required. Don't think of renaming an arbitrary archive as a way to turn a Java world into Bedrock.

Open the finished world file

Install Bedrock and find the downloaded .mcworld file in your downloads folder. Open it with Minecraft. According to the official instructions, after successful import, a notification will appear and the world will be available in the Play menu. Wait until it's finished, then find the map in the world list. If there is no notification, first check which file is open and by which application before downloading again. Do not manually replace the main world folder with this file.

First launch of the map

Open the imported world and read the author's description, starting signs, or rules, if provided. Mark the spawn point and the expected task: exploration, adventure or construction. Check if the necessary resources have loaded. Don't judge a map as broken just because it differs from normal survival: the author's world may set a different scenario. Before making major changes, save a separate copy so you can revert to the original state.

If the world didn't appear

Write down the file extension, the required edition, your client version and the import result. Distinguish between three cases: the file does not open; import reports an error; the world has appeared, but the contents look different. For .mcpack, look for the installed package in the world settings, not the new world in the list. If the author distributes multiple files, read the installation instructions. Check one material at a time: this makes it easier to understand which file caused the problem.
