Steal an Egg is a 2026 free-to-play multiplayer video game developed by misfitsbsthree. The game centers around buying and stealing Brainrots—characters, but instead the game centers around stealing Eggs from curtain animals in curtain biomes surrounded by tall walls which if successfully stolen, it will then hatch open pets when being put in the pent. The game has similar mechanics, and sounds from Steal a Brainrot, and uses similar stuff from Grow a Garden like the plot of farmland and music. Steal an Egg is Roblox's third most played games on the platform getting 14.25 million concurrent users (CCU) on September 25 2026, just under the second most played roblox game called Grow a Garden. The game has gained popularity online due to it's former controversial doomscrolling feature on the treadmills.
Gameplay
In Steal an Egg, players will go into biomes and try to steal eggs from curtain animals like Chickens, Dinosaurs, and more. After being successfully stolen, the eggs will hatch open an animal that is kept as a pet. They can use treadmills to gain money and speed, the speed can be used to run more faster then usual so they can escape the animals more faster. Rare eggs can spawn in curtain biomes.
The game gives players a Baseball bat and Bear traps similar to Steal a Brainrot items. The game also uses Farmland like plots to keep the pets in when being hatched which is similar to Grow a Garden and uses the same music as Grow a Garden like Morning Mood, and The Four Seasons. There is a shop that can give players money and speed which cost Robux, the currency used on Roblox. Just like Grow a Garden and Steal a Brainrot, the game's aesthetics feature studded textures evocative of old-school Roblox games which are used on the Eggs, Animals, the Baseplate, and more.
Controversy
When the game was released, its treadmills had a doomscrolling feature which allowed players to scroll and give the videos likes, just like TikTok, Instagram Reels, and YouTube Shorts. This feature was added to the game to prevent players from getting bored or leaving the treadmill, keeping them in the game. This feature led to controversy since it had kept younger players in the game for hours, boosting the game's concurrent users (CCU) to 500,000 active players. On August 24, 2026, Roblox took action on the issue and temporarily shut the game down and demanded misfitsbsthree to remove the doomscrolling feature since it didn't comply with Roblox's Terms of Service on the new features on Roblox called Roblox Kids and Roblox Select. The next day, the game was back up but without the doomscrolling feature that was on the treadmills, and newer, stricter rules were applied by Roblox after the feature was removed.
Reception
The game has gotten viral on Social media such as TikTok, YouTube, and Reddit. Same with Video game websites such as IGN, Rock Paper Shotgun, and other various video game websites giving limited time codes in the game, guides and tactics.
Steal an Egg has been compared with an episode of Black Mirror titled "Fifteen Million Merits", the second episode of the first season, due to the treadmills formly having a Doomscrolling feature, similar to the episode where it presents a world where people must pedal on stationary bikes in exchange for basic living costs and electrical.
Patricia Hernandez on Polygon described it as the most dystopian things ever released on Roblox, and she also described the game as being likened to one of the more depressing episodes of Netflix's sci-fi series Black Mirror.
